24 Weeks: Goodbye Running...For Now

Well, I'm on my way to 25 weeks. That used to seem SO far away, but it'll be here in just a few days. My next appointment is when I have to drink that yucky "cola" stuff for the gestational diabetes test. You have no idea how I'm dreading that. I had to take one of those tests when I was in high school, and it was absolutely horrible. Drinking it isn't that big of a deal; it's the way it makes you feel afterwards because you can't eat, and you just feel sick, jittery, and terrible inside.

On another note, where has January gone? This month is almost over, and it seems like it just got here. February is short, too, so that will fly by. Then, before you know it, I'll be waddling around waiting on Little Man to get here. Some days I feel like I want to keep him with me for as long as I can, but others, I just want to see his little face and hold him like crazy.

Have you ever started a post one day, go back to it the next, and realize that you no longer want to say all the stuff you were going to say? Well, today is one of those days. I was going to complain about how I'm missing running and how I feel that all my running buddies are running off without me into the land of PRs and bagels. However, my attitude changed a little bit last night. After school I went home, changed, and headed over to the track. I walked a lap first, and then I started running. No, it was more like a hobble. No...well... I don't know what it was, but it didn't feel good. I felt as energetic as I ever have--like I could run around the world--but when I started, it felt like I had a watermelon pounding on my innards. It wasn't as bad at first, but with each lap, it started increasing. If it wasn't for a necessary bathroom run, I probably would've tried to stick it out a little longer. (Boy, I'm glad I didn't.)

Later last night around 7:30, I got in the floor and did some squats, leg lifts, planks, and stretches just because I didn't feel like I did enough when I went out to the track earlier.  Surprisingly, those exercises I did in the floor of my living room got my heart pumping, and I actually felt like I was doing something. Strength training is not one of my favorite things to do. I guess you could say I'm a cardio junkie because I just love to feel my blood flowing and the wind blowing in my face, but as much as it pains me to say it, I believe running is officially out until my little watermelon makes his grand entrance.  The pain has returned in all its glory. It was especially painful during the night when I flipped over from side to side, and honestly, I'm just plain sick of it. I'm not willing to suffer like that even if it means I can't run for a few more months. I mean, people get injured all the time and are out for 3, 4, sometimes even 6 months! I can handle this. I'm going to have to.

Mom has encouraged me to get some DVDs, but 1. I hate spending money on exercise (unless it's new shoes) and 2. I get bored with videos after so many uses. There's always walking and the stationary bike, but walking gets boring after a while, and the stationary bike never makes me feel like I've gotten a full-body workout. I guess I'll just have to mix it up each day for variety. (Can you tell I'm a little partial?)

Mom and Baby
He weighs over a pound now and is getting longer by the week. I'm beginning to pick up on his sleep schedule. He kicks a lot throughout the day, but I notice it more when I'm hungry for lunch and at night when I'm trying to go to bed. His taste buds have developed, and his lungs are starting to prepare for breathing. His primary job at this point is packing on the pounds and gaining body fat. I can't wait to kiss his little pudgy face!

This weekend I restocked my prenatal vitamin and Palmer's Cocoa Butter supply while at Target. So far, I haven't developed any stretch marks. I'm still not over my sinus infection, either. (That's a self-diagnosis, by the way.) It's not as bad as it was, though. I think sinus problems crop up a lot during pregnancy??, so I guess that's just a part of the package.

Bible Reading
I'm almost through with Exodus.

Are there any great pregnancy DVDs out there that could get my blood pumping?

Are there any exercises I should be doing to make labor easier?

  1. I really liked the Summer Sanders prenatal workout video. I ran but this was good for me for weights and you can vary how challenged you want to be. You're doing great!!!
